All rivers flow from high elevation to low elevation. The northern coast of Canada is lower than the northern borders of the United States, for the most part.

The Nile river also flows north, for the same reason. The Amazon flows east. The Columbia flows predominantly west. The Snake River pretty much flows every which way, which is why it is called the Snake.
