This is a question of opinion, and therefore everyones answer will be bias. Theres no reason why Scotland cant be an independent nation if we should choose too.

From a Scottish perspective:

  • theres around £2.17trn of oil in scottish waters
  • it would give scotland a greater say and protect its affairs better with its own representation in Europe
  • Scottish has made budget surplus' for the past 5 years whilst the rest of the UK is in deficit
  • gives Scottish people a chance to determine their own future.
  • the union isnt really broken, so is there any need to fix it?
  • westminster figures show scotland is subsidied by the rest of the UK, can it cope on its own?
  • An independent scotland is not guarenteed a place the the european union

There just some of the points, its up to you to make up your own mind

Is Scotland part of UK?

Scotland is a separate country within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Until 1707 Scotland and England were both independent countries, but in 1707 The act of union created the united Kingdom, Scotland and England legally ceased to exist, Wales was considered part of England having been conquered during the 13th and 14th centuries. In reality both countries kept their individual identities, although many English people and those from overseas came to see England and the UK as being synonymous. In 1999 Scotland achieved devolution, which means there is now a Scottish parliament dealing with matters that affect Scotland, whereas before these matters were dealt with by the overwhelmingly English Westminster parliament.
