The Huns are generally believed to have originated from Central Asia, but their exact ethnic and cultural roots remain debated among historians. While they are often associated with the Mongolian steppes, they are not directly descended from the Mongolians as understood in a modern context. Instead, the Huns likely emerged from a mix of various nomadic groups, including those from the region that would later become Mongolia, but their identity was shaped by multiple influences over time. Thus, while there may be some historical connections, the Huns and Mongolians are distinct groups.

The Mongolians were known for their organized and disciplined military tactics, utilizing a combination of speed, mobility, and siege warfare to conquer vast territories. In contrast, the Huns relied more on hit-and-run tactics and sheer force of numbers to overwhelm their enemies. The Mongols also incorporated advanced siege weaponry and strategic planning, while the Huns focused on raiding and pillaging.
There were various groups that invaded the Roman empire among them were the Ostrogoths ad the Lombards. These groups were pushed into the weakened Roman empire by the Huns who also invaded Italy.

There are many theories floating around about the origin of the Huns: so we dont know for sure. But the most accepted theory is that the Huns descended from a mongolic (not mongolian but related) tribe called the Xiongnu on the borders of the Han Chinese Empire. Over time, the Xiongnu moved further and further west till they reached Pannonia (modern day Hungary) a few generations before Attila the Hun. By the time of Attila, the Huns used the Carpathian basin area as a base of their subsequent attacks all over Europe. I dont know what happened to them after Attila died but Im guessing they dissolved into the populations of Europe
Huns ended in 469.
Yes, there are several myths surrounding the formation of the Huns. One prevalent myth is that they were a single, unified tribe with a clear origin, when in fact the Huns were a confederation of various nomadic groups. Additionally, some legends exaggerate their origins, suggesting they descended from mythical figures or were inherently savage warriors, overlooking their complex social structures and interactions with other cultures. These narratives often oversimplify their history and the diverse influences that shaped their identity.

Mongolia always had a small population. If you look back to the age of Ghengis Khan there were barely a million of Mongols. And if you trace them further back to the Huns age with Attila, they didn`t number much more than a million eighter. Did you know Huns are ancient Mongolians, and the word Hun or (Hun uu), means "man", thats how the mongols call their ancestors.
