The answer to that depends on the climate where you live. Escaped parakeets have been able to establish breeding populations in the wild in warm places, like Florida, California, and Hawaii. There are even wild-living monk parakeets in New York. But if you live in a cold place, or a place where it gets cold in winter, well, ... A parakeet has no instinct to migrate when food becomes scarce. All parakeets eventually die.
