No, not legally. While the mental calculus in conversion is not illegal, there would be no way to know if someone changed the way they are thinking. However, numerous Iranians who have actually undergone a conversion have been arrested for the crime of apostasy (conversion from Islam). While there is no official law in Iran about the treatment of apostates, Iranian Law allows judges to use Islamic Jurisprudence to fill in the gaps of Iranian Civil Law. As a result, apostates have been jailed indefinitely, tortured, and executed, depending on the disposition of the particular judge. Currently, the Majlis (Iranian Parliament) is considering passing a law making apostasy a mandatory death sentence.
