Yes, if you are travelling into tropical or ssome sub-tropical regions you need "inoculations" against diseases. Consult you doctor or local hospital, not strangers on the internet about this!

For the Gambia, the EU is recommending at the moment inoculations against:

Yellow Fever, Diphtherie, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis, Measels, Hepatitis A, Abdominaltyphus

Depending on what you are doing there, consider innoculations also against: Hepatitis B, Rabies, Mening.-Meningitis

It is advised to protect yourself from Malaria and AIDS in this area too!
