The Sixties were a time of great turmoil, but 1968 was an especially terse domestic time for the United States. In the midst of an unpopular war in Vietnam, the government faced massive social unrest in this and other areas such as racial unrest. In addition, two key assassinations, that of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy brought the country to a boiling point.
