Gallipoli was a WWI battle Primarily between the English and Australians against the German supported Turks. The area was important only because who ever controlled it also controlled the a narrow straight of water known as The Dardanelles. Australia suffered heavy losses. I am not 100% positive but I believe this was the worst battle in number of casualties for Australia and New Zealand during WWI
