Nobody knows very much about Norway before the Vikings, around year 800 AD.
But it is assumed that Norway was first populated by people from continental Europe following the glaciers as they withdrew after the last Ice Age.

This has led Norwegian humorist Odd Børretzen to speculate that the Very First Norwegian had to be the village idiot:
While the rest of the tribe was lazing around in the grass enjoying the sun they hadn't seen for 10,000 years, he was up in alarm - "where's the ice, I can't live without ice!" - collected his wives and children, stumbled after the retreating glacier and ended up in Norway.

Some of us who live in Norway tend to think that this story is probably actual fact.
