Napoleon took over most parts of what is modern day Europe. After his exile to St. Helena, most "important" people showed up to what was called the Congress of Vienna. There people decided what Europe should look like in the future. They unified the German states (loosely) to contain France, they split what is modern day Poland up between Russia, Prussia, and Austria to cover up their losses in the war. They also switched ownership of Venice.
For the better
The political map of Europe.
When Napoleon Bonaparte took power, most of Europe was ruled by a monarchy. When Napoleon became First Consul he began annexing territories and building his French Empire. His absolute rule resulted in Europe revolutionizing and refusing to live under an absolute power.
It started as "free trade" under the EU. Then it became the government . . . somehow.
