How powerful is Great Britain?

Great Britain is very powerful, it has economic, military, diplomatic and cultural strengths, and a lot of this is backed up by history;

• Invention of Industry via the Industrial Revolution
• The foremost power in the 18, 19 and early 20 century
• Founded the Majority of the Western World (USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand)
• Created a legal system which governs the modern world

I also suppose the sovereign (Queen) as head of state of Great Britain, Canada, Australia...etc is an influential individual, because of this fact - she has been queen for longer than most heads of state have been alive. She is also head of the Commonwealth (the commonwealth is the name of the evolved British Empire)

Great Britain is also a Great Power (as are only 7 on the planet - USA, France, UK, Germany, Russia, China and Japan)

Powerful could mean many things. But overall, considering all factors, including military, economic, and culture, the UK is a pretty powerful country on the world scale. It stands shoulder to shoulder with France, Britain leading by just a little. Officially, according to the United States National Defence Review, as well as the UN, it stands 5th on the scale of world powers.

Militarily, Britain has the 2nd biggest power projection in the world, meaning that it is able to send unmanned nuclear bombs as well troops all over the world very efficiently and quickly. Britain also has the highest trained troops in the world, out-training the US hugely. The average infantry soldier of the UK would be considered elite by other countries. The UK also has cutting edge state-of-the-art technology and weapons, making it a nuclear power and in turn a member of the UN Security Council, making it very influential. England is also a very close ally to the USA, going to war allied to it on almost every war in the past 100 years. Even though the UK does not have as many nuclear bombs as the US and Russia, it has enough nuclear power to destroy any country on the globe. Not many countries can beat the UK's army.

Economically, despite the international financial crisis, the UK, particularly England, stands high on the scale of economic influence. The UK owns many oil companies, including Shell, which it owns with the Netherlands, BP (British Petroleum), which is British, too. Slowly, England is recovering from the crisis and will once again be a key financial power, more than it already is.

Culturally, there is no country in the world which matches the United Kingdom in culture. Millions of tourists come to the UK to see Big Ben, the London Eye, Downing Street and many other sights. So many inventions come from the UK, for example, the Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. He understood that radio waves CAN be used for telecommunication. After all, could you imagine not having a phone in your house. The UK also has signs of it all over the world. It once had an empire spanning a quarter of the surface area of the globe, ruling 500,000,000 (500 million people), making it the biggest empire on earth. Now, it no longer has an empire, but rather has spread the English language and spread education systems stable economies all over the world.

The UK is an extremely powerful global force. UK is known for its culture, economics, education, technological development, financial power, centuries of history and scientific research. The UK is not quite as powerful as the USA and the People's Republic of China overall (we are catching up though), but London is the world's most powerful city (New York City is close second) financially and our other cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield contribute well to global economy. The British Empire is the largest empire in the world, and our queen, Elizabeth II, rules over multiple other powerful countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and others. The UK played a role in the creation of the United States, and we remain great allies with the country.

The UK is famous for hundreds of things including its inventions, historical architecture and scenic landscape, its sports/entertainment, its world-famous cuisune, the BBC network, its enormous amount of popular music acts, and its popular literature including the works of William Shakespeare, Ian Fleming and J.K. Rowling. We have many famous figures including Winston Churchill, considered the most legendary leader of all time, and astronomer Isaac Newton, whom discovered gravity.

United Kingdom is arguably the most important country in history for these reasons. Our country looks small, but we have accomplished extroadinary things - the UK remains a country which has stood the test of time as a glorious nation.
