The country of Australia takes up the full landmass of the continent. Australia is home to many unique flora and fauna. Marsupials and monotremes (mammals that lay eggs) also existed on other continents, but only in Australia-New Guinea did they out-compete the placental mammals and come to dominate. The climate of Australia varies widely, but is predominately desert or semi-arid.
