Because Rome, Italy is the home of the Vatican City, the "headquarters" of the Roman Catholic Church, one may assume that Italians are all or mostly of that religion. There was a time in history, especially during the mediaeval era, when one's life would have been in danger to profess to be of any religion other than Roman Catholicism. In modern times Rome does have a large Roman Catholic following but observances of many, many other religions is present also.
