There is a common misconception of how foreign people looks and behaves, called stereotype. For Mexicans it is the lazy, short, potbellied 'Mexicano' with a big mustache, sombrero and a poncho drinking tequila all day long and watching cockfighting or lucha libre.
Mexicans - especially those who stay in Mexico - look just like other people. Some have darker skins and some have lighter skins. Most Mexicans are a mix of European and Native American, known as mestizos, and represent 60-80% of the population. Then, there are people who are direct descendants of Native American peoples who inhabited Mexico before the arrival of Europeans. They represent 10% to 30% of the population. Finally, 9% to 17% are Mexicans of European descent, mostly being of Spanish ancestry. There are other minorities, such Middle Eastern, Asian and even Afro-Mexicans who represent another 3-4% of the population.
