In the name of Allah Almighty.
The question is welcome. People have the right to know. If somebody is interested in the teachings of Islam, he is welcome. The Muslims perform Hajj because it is obligatory on every Muslim, man and woman, once in life-under certain conditions. Strangely enough, this obligation is in the memory of Hazra Ibraheem (AS), Abraham, his son Hazrat Ismaaiel (AS), and Hazrat Hajirah (AS), the wife of Hazrat Ibraheem (AS). It also commemorates the event of the first meeting of Hazrat Adam (AS) and Hazrat Hawwa (Eve) at the Mountain of Mercy (Jabl-i-Rahmat) situated in the field of Arafaat. It is the place where our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (May peace and blessings of Allah karim be upon him) delivered his famous sermon. After Hajj the pilgrims, and the Muslims all over the world, slaughter animals as sacrifice to commemorate the sacrifice Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) offered of his son Ismaieel (AS). The event should have been equally sacred for the Jews and the Christians as both of them have faith in the Prophet-hood of Hazrat Abraham (AS).
