A non-continental state is often referred to as an "island nation" or "island state." These countries are primarily located on islands and do not have a land connection to continental landmasses. Examples include nations like Japan, Madagascar, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, there are non-contiguous states, such as Hawaii in the United States, which are separated from the main landmass.

You answered your own question. There are the Continental United States , or contiguous states, and the non-contiguous States . Although Alaska is continental , it touches no other state.
I am a geologist who lived in Colorado for 30 years. I have never heard of it being called the "Continental" State. It is the "Centennial" State because it was the only State to come into the Union in 1876, the 100 year anniversary or centennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. However, the Continental Divide runs north to south through the entire State. That of course is the dividing line between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean watersheds. Perhaps that is where someone, somewhere referred to Colorado as the "Continental" State.
