Iraq has always been known as "Iraq" in Arabic (we're talking at least 1500 years, probably more). In European languages, however, the area was usually known as MESOPOTAMIA. In the Bible, I suppose the terms BABYLONIA or CHALDEA are used to refer to Iraq (or at least the southern half of it. The northern part would be ASSYRIA). Iranians maintain that their land has always been called "Iran" in their native language as well. However, most other people used the term PERSIA. Today, PERSIA (or "Fars", to use the local pronunciation), is merely one province in southwestern Iran.
