The portion of Michigan Avenue south of the Chicago River is part of the original townsite plat of Chicago, and has always been known as Michigan Avenue or Michigan Boulevard. With the 1920 opening of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, Michigan Avenue was extended north of the Chicago River all the way to a connection with Lake Shore Drive north of Oak Street. This new avenue was created by widening the former Pine Street between the river and Chicago Avenue. The portion from Chicago Avenue to Oak Street had previously been known as Lincoln Park Boulevard. Various blocks of Michigan Avenue have been given additional, "honorary," names in recent years, but those are not used by the public.
Some call it the Magnificent Mile.

There is plenty of Furniture outlets in Chicago. A few are Room & Board Furniture located on 55 East Ohio Street. EuroFurniture on 2145 W. Grand Avenue. Crate and Barrel on 646 N. Michigan Avenue. Just to name a few. These are the top rated in the area though. Good luck on finding what furniture your looking for.
