Australia has 3 main time zones, but in summer there are five time zones due to all but one of the eastern states and one of the territories following daylight saving time.

From October to March, Australian Eastern Daylight time (AEDT), which is followed by New South Wales, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania, is 11 hours ahead of the UK.

Queensland, the state in the northeast, is 10 hours ahead of the UK because it still operates on Australian Eastern Standard time, or AEST. Western Australia, the state that occupies the entire western third of the continent, is 8 hours ahead of the UK in summer.

Australian Central Standard time, which is followed by South Australia and the Northern Territory, is 9.5 hours ahead of the UK. In summer, however, South Australia follows Central Daylight time, also known as Central Summer time, putting it 10.5 hours ahead of the UK.
