Connecticut is one of the New England states, and also one of the Northeastern states. The Northeast region consists of two smaller regions, New England and the Mid-Atlantic or Middle-Atlantic states.
The six New England states are Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Mid-Atlantic states are New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and some people also consider Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington D.C. to be part of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions as well.

Connecticut is located in the northeastern part of the United States. It is bordered by New York to the west, Massachusetts to the north, and Rhode Island to the east, with Long Island Sound to the south. This places Connecticut firmly in the eastern region of the country.
