The Greeks only actually inhabited the south of modern day Greece . Modern day Greece was originaly inhabited by Thracians , Thessalians , Macedonians , Turks , Albanians and of corse Greeks . On the map bellow you can see who originaly inhabited which peoples inhabited which part of Greece .

Creete [ shown in light Green] , The Agean Islands [shown in white] and 'Central Greece' [shown in pink] . The southern part of the Ionian Islands was also inhabited by Greeks .

Thessalians inhabited Thessaly [in gold], Macedonians inhabited Macedonia [in red] , Thracians inhabited Thrace [in yellow] , Turks inhabited the other islands and the Albanians inhabited the northern part of the Ionian islands and Iperos [in blue] . Turks , Macedonia and Albania's homelands also expanded outside of the Hellenic peninsula . In the build up to the Pelopenesian war , the Kingdom of the Serbs and the Bosnian kingdoms united against the Illerian [Albanian] invaders and began to push them out of modern day Croatia [first settled on by the Albanians] , Montenegro [originally settled on by the Serbs] and southern Kosovo [in which Serbia and Albania made farming settlements in around the same time and had been constantly fighting each other]. The real turning point was when Thrace and Thessaly sent their army and fleet to defend Athanes from a Spartan offensive [during the Pelopenesian war] and king Philip of Macedon took all of Thrace and most of Thessaly . The rest of the offensive on Thessaly was post pond due to an Illerian offensive launched from roughly modern day Tetovo . They took heave casualties around the Skopje region and were halted and counter attacked near Kumanovo and Stip. The end result was a lasting alliance between Macedonia and Serbia , swell as Albania being pushed past Mala Prespa , Iperos split and Illyria was pushed to modern day Albania minus Mala Prespa . After a large navile engagement , Athanes surrendered and Alexander the great defeated the Persians and created the empire of Macedon taking Egypt , Babylon , and Syria . The alliances in the Balkans made it extremely difficult for the Romans to conquer and Dacia[related to Thracians and Thessalians].The Romans killed most Dacians , and only those who escaped survived Roman conquest . The Thessalians were ethnicaly cleansed , like the Dacians. The Macedonians , Albanians , and Thracians were also masacred but the Albananian govornment forced Greece to cede territory and stop , Bulgarians and Serbians also invaded Ottoman occupied Macedonians but did not ethnicaly cleanse them or kill them as the Bulgarians saw them as Bulgarians and the Serbs saw them as their slavic brothers . The masacring of the Thracians was started by the ottomans , continued by the Bulgarians and finished by the Greeks . Macedonia and Albania still have territorial claims on Northern Greece .
