The Massachusetts Bay Company was chartered in March of 1630, with its first ship's sailing to England. They were the John and the Mary. On June 12,1630 they returned and founded the settlement of Dorchester Massachusetts.

Philadelphia was a secular colony established by a Quaker, but that isn't quite New England. Providence (Rhode island) Colony was established by a Baptist, Roger Williams after the Puritans gave him the boot from Salem. Connecticut Colony was started by Puritan Thomas Hooker.
