King Solomon began construction of the first Temple in the year 2928 from creation (833 BCE). The Ark of the Covenant was brought into the Temple in 2935 (827 BCE) and the Temple was completed a few months later.

• A lack of understanding of naming conventions of the time which has led to a skewed dating system. A primary source of dating used by Western scholars has always been the names of key figures used in records from this time. Western scholars did/do not understand that a common practice in the Middle East was and is for individuals to use completely different names in different contexts. As such, where the same person is referred to by different names, Western scholars counted each name as a different person. This added decades into their counting of years.
• An attempt to discount Jewish links to the ancestral land of Israel. Today, a common practice in the Middle East is to deny the Jewish link to Israel to the point of denying the existence of the two Temples. More moderate people amongst this group have developed alternate story lines in an attempt to discredit Jewish records. However, over the last 10 years or so, there have been many archeological finds on and in the Temple Mount that support the Jewish time-line.
• An attempt on the part of atheists to discredit Jewish records. Many atheists believe that by discrediting Jewish records, thereby supposedly showing the fallacy of Jewish claims, it strengthens their argument that Judaism is false.
• Historically, Western scholars looked at Jews as incapable of having accurately recorded their own history. This mainly stems from (in their opinion) the inability of Jews to see the truth of Jesus. If Jews are incapable of understanding how their own Bible pointed to Jesus, how could they possibly be capable of accurately recording historic events. Again, this is put to lie by the countless artifacts found in the region that support the Jewish dating of events.

Historians have established that the Babylonians defeated Jerusalem in 597 BCE, subsequently losing control and then recapturing Jerusalem in 586 BCE. The avenging Babylonians sacked the city and destroyed the temple attributed to Solomon in 586 BCE. Modern Jewish scholars, especially since the second half of the twentieth century have sought to move the historical dates forward almost 150 years, to remove the so-called Missing Years from the Judaic records. However, the dates of Nebuchadnezzar's reign and of the Babylonian Exile have been verified by thousands of Babylonian, Persian and Greek documents found by archaeologists. This includes hundreds of astronomical diaries from ancient Babylon which have been recovered (over 1200 ), some of which include detailed astronomical observations that provide an accurate map of how the skies looked during that period. Typically these diaries record the locations of the sun, moon, and respective planets against the celestial backdrop (the so-called normal stars along the ecliptic) over a period of six months or so. These ancient diaries describe celestial events that can be dated to within the hour on a specific date.
