Bangladesh joined One Day International (ODI) cricket on July 31, 1986, when they played their first ODI match against India in the Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka. They became a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2000, which allowed them to participate in ODI tournaments more regularly. Bangladesh has since developed into a competitive cricketing nation, with notable performances in various ICC events.
