Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) migrated to Utah from 1846 until about 1900. From 1846 to 1870 they did so by wagon or handcart, and from 1870 to 1900 they took the train, which had finally reached across the country. Before World War 1, Church leaders began encouraging members to stay in their homelands and build up the Church there, rather than migrate to Utah.
