Cyprus has been a colony under Alexander the great, Rome and the Ottoman Empire, but if you mean when did it become a British colony; that was in !878. Under an agreement with Turkey Great Britain would maintain Cyprus although it remained part of the Ottoman Empire, in name only. All the administration was run by the British, the legal system, education, transport etc. In 1914 when Turkey entered the 1st World War on the German side Britain annexed the island and it became a fully fledged colony.
