I would also like to find pictures of Pantex Village. I am trying to set up a Facebook page to see if anyone can provide anything. I have some, but they are family closeups with a limited amount of the village being visible. As I locate them, I will add them to the Pantex Village Facebook page I have tried to initiate. Stories and historical information would also be helpful.

Pantex has part of their own website devoted to information about careers with them. Otherwise, the best alternative is to check with local employment agencies where they have offices.

If you actually have one make arrangements to have PANTEX dismantle it.

What do you call some one in the military that builds and tests weapons of mass destruction?

A contractor, at least in the US. The only "weapon of mass destruction" the US military uses is the nuclear bomb. Those are made and serviced by the Pantex Company, which is outside Amarillo, Texas. WAY outside Amarillo, Texas. No one who isn't a Pantex employee works on those.

Where does the US assemble most of its thermonuclear bombs?

I think you had better ask the Pentagon PANTEX, near Amarillo, Texas is the only currently active final assembly plant. However their main task now is dismantling retired bombs, the rest is refurbishing existing ones as no new designs are in production at this time. Plants that do various subassemblies are scattered throughout the country.

Neither the US nor Russia makes new nuclear weapons. The US refurbishes existing nuclear weapons at the Pantex plant outside Amarillo, TX. Russia has a similar facility operated by a corporation called Rosatom, but I don't know where exactly. Other countries may be making small quanties of new nuclear weapons.

Several sites existed, especially for components. The main assembly site for most of the cold war was PANTEX near Amarillo, TX.Early sites included:Los AlamosKirkland AFB in Albuquerque, NMMost of the large Pacific test shots were assembled on Perry Island at Eniwetok atoll and then sailed on landing craft transports to the detonation location.

Where were nuclear weapons built?

In the U.S. they were originally built at Los Alamos, NM. When the production rates became too high for Los Alamos (and when the Livermore, CA lab began making successful designs) a plant was built at Rocky Flats, CO to build them. It is shut down now because of too much Plutonium contamination and lack of need for new weapons. I think the PanTex plant in TX now handles all weapon refurbishing.

Where did the building of atomic bombs take place?

The a-bomb was built in Oak Ridge, Tennessee - just outside Knoxville.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------All atomic bombs built in 1945-1947 were built in Los Alamos, NM. Oak Ridge, TN only supplied the oralloy (Oak Ridge "alloy": weapons grade 80% enriched uranium) while Hanford, WA supplied the plutonium and polonium. The Navy supplied cordite and high explosives. Sandia in Albuquerque, NM supplied the custom bomb casings and electronics. Later factories (e.g. PANTEX in TX, Rocky Flats in CO) were built to do the assembly.
