in the north of Brazil, the Amazon Rainforest coveres most of the area, and swamp land from the deltas of the Amazon River. So therefore the south is more developed as there is land with no dense vegetation and also it's along the cost which allows communications to other countrys easier, also trade is a main factor, why cities are built on the coast.
