Virgin Blue, and Tiger Airways could be seen as competiors, however, Qantas is more focused on the Bussiness market, where there isn't a strong market compeditor. Also Qantas is trying to control the budget airlines through the introduction of Jeststar. However on the international market, Qantas have a number of competiors, like Singapore airline are a major competior, and also Emirates, and other more up-market airlines. QANTAS has a number of competitors both Internationally and Domestically. Domestically they are being challenged by Virgin and Tiger Airlines and have the second lowest popularity rating of all Airlines that fly in Australia, only being marginally better than JetStar a QANTAS of shoot. Internationally, their copmpetitors are lessened due to individual Government Regulations that control when and where an Airline can fly. The only real competition to QANTAS (Internationally) are Virgin and British Airlines. The majority of the other airlines that fly into and out of Australia (Singapore, US Carriers, China etc etc etc) fly routes and/or schedules that QANTAS is unable to obtain, ie the routes from Sydney to LAX for example. Most of these regulations are set down by the Australian Government to protect QANTAS (a partially government owned airline) and by the Governments/Airline Authorities of other countries. If the airline industry was de-regulated (shock Horror) QANATS, as wold all Airlines) have much more competition - sort of obvious really.
