He tried to sail from North America to Asia by sailing west trying to find a Northwest passage. Cabot landed somewhere on the east cost of Canada, (probably Newfoundland, Labrador or Nova Scotia) which he took into posession, and explored further the coastline. His explorations lay ground for the British claims for Canada.
