Nagy is a nickname for a large or powerful person, from the Hungarian nagy, meaning 'large.' Nagy is the most common surname in use in Hungary today, and is also relatively common in Austria, Germany and the United States.

Nagy is also a possible variation of the Indian surname Nagi.

They (Nagi) are from lineage of Takshak Ruler of Khandoban or Inderaprasth or now DELHI. They had to left Khandoban after they were defeated and massacred by Pandavas and Krishna. Pandavas wanted to make Inderaprasth their capital but Takshak objected. They had to settle in other countries.
