There have been people in Thailand for about 45000 yeaqrs or so. The earliest known settlers came from the northern kingdoms which is now part of Myanma, China, Vietnam and Laos - they were known as the Tai. The Khmer peoples rules from Malaysia up to China and from India across to Vietnam (massive kingdom).
The earliest non east asians came from India, Middle East and northern africa (via the Indo-China trade route - the Himalayas made it impossible to go directly from India to China). There was a Turk in the court of an early Lanna kiong around 1200AD.
The first western visitors came from Portrigal (and brought the South American Chilli which migrated to both India and China from Siam via the trade route). This was around 1600s. A hindred years or thereabout and Britain, Holland and Spain were frequent visitors. France too to some lesser degree (they were collonising the east fringe - L'Orient) - Britain Burma and India and the Dutch Indonesia. Siam was never colonised but seeded land to each - especially the Dutch and British.
The Burmese sacked Thaialnd (Siam) several times - and Siam invaded and concored Lanna (they are now both Thailand). Thailand sided with the Japanese during WW2 and were all but part of the Japanese empire during the war.
