During King Philip's War (1675-1676), many Native Americans living in the Praying Towns, which were settlements established by English colonists for Christianized Native Americans, faced suspicion and hostility from the colonists. Some Praying Indians were viewed as traitors for their perceived loyalty to their Native tribes, leading to their imprisonment, forced relocation, or even execution. Others were caught in the crossfire of the conflict, suffering violence and displacement. Ultimately, the war significantly diminished the population and stability of these Praying Towns.
