latana originally came from sth Africa n was used a balast in the early shipping trade, it was discarded when reaching port(s) in Australia and was not always dead upon removal. latana grows more prolific in this country than that of it's original habitat. latana is a rambling shrub (it grows over itself & anything in it's growth path) n it suppresses any growth beneath it's foliage by blocking light penetration to newly emerging native flora whilst it's root system starves the soil of moisture & also alters the soils pH level which is not suited to our native flora. this is a pest & has had a massive impact on both flora & fauna in this country.
