Quebec wanted to separate because they're afraid of being assimilated into Anglo-Canada economically and culturally. Known as the "melting pot", the United States of America does not solve this problem.

Writing from Montreal, I would suggest that the only people the Quebecois resent more than immigrants and English-Canadians are Americans.
