As the post-war economy in the UK grew, there was a severe shortage of manpower restricting growth especially in labour intensive manual industries like Steel and Textiles. Employers started to actively recruit in the commonwealth countries and many Pakistanis chose to start a new life in far more prosperous England as they had full rights of entry and residence.
Of course in the 1950s Pakistan included what is now Bangladesh.

Most Pakistanis came to England looking for jobs etc. Most people think England is the place to be because of the jobs/money etc. The biggest influx from Pakistan began in the early 1970's and continued through that decade.
They all came from England except Niall Horan who was born in Ireland. Zayn Malik's family originates from Pakistan, but he himself is from England.
