Willem Jansz did not widely publicize his discovery of Australia in 1606 for several reasons. Firstly, the Dutch East India Company had a vested interest in trade routes and resources, and Jansz's findings might not have aligned with their strategic goals. Additionally, the vast and seemingly barren land may not have seemed valuable or significant compared to the rich resources found in other regions. Lastly, the complexities of navigation and communication of the time meant that news of his discovery could easily be overlooked or lost.

I suppose the student answer is Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog - Shark Bay. The problem with who discovered Australia questions is opinion varies, history has been rewritten often (to suit colonial needs of the day) and archival evidence continues to be unearthed that people found it but didnt really know (or care) what they found. Sorry to be glib - but in the 1700's there were a lot of agendas
HE DIDNT DISCOVER MATH!!! I ALREADY ANSWERED THIs
