New Guinea has a very harsh environment and people many of whom are spread throughout the country in small primitive village environments. Their way of life is very much controlled by what living they can make directly from their surroundings and this puts a limit on the amount of people that can be supported To have populations like those in the more developed country's (even the poorest of them a lot of infrastructure needs to exist in the first place to support them. this is at present lacking in PNG, besides any wealth that either PNG or Irian jia is certainly being wroughted out of the country by either Australia or Indonesia. Indonesia is even stealing the land from the locals by chasing them into the bush.
