In the Old Testament, God gave instructions to the jews to never use nails
inside Jerusalem. This is why everything in Jerusalem is made of marble, rather
than wood that requires nails. So, since a crucifixion required nails, they had to
take Jesus outside of the city's gates to Golgotha.
Fascinating!
Right here, in three or four short lines . . .
-- We learn that the forces of the Roman Empire that occupied the holy land
were sensitive to the instructions of the old testament, and adhered to them,
apparently so as to avoid upsetting the locals. (Presumably right up until they
defiled and destroyed the locals' Holy Temple of the old testament less than
50 years later.)
-- We learn that it was the followers of the old testament, aka Jews, who
crucified Jesus.
-- We learn for the first time that crucifixion was a routine method of execution
among adherents of the old testament. We didn't know this, because it isn't
mentioned anywhere in the old testament, even where the methods of legal
execution are explicitly listed.
-- We learn for the first time that the old testament prohibits the use of mails
anywhere inside Jerusalem. We didn't know this either, because we don't find it
stated anywhere in the old testament.
