The Maldives is a set of 200 inhabited islands and 80 islands with tourist resorts located in the Indian ocean off the south-southwest of India. Because of the Sunni-Muslim religions items such as alcohol, pork, dogs and religious observation of other religions is banned on the islands except those designated for resorts and tourism. You will find plenty of sunshine here until around June when the rainfall increases through August. Once you arrive in the Maldives, you will receive a 30 day visa as long as you have the valid travel documents and other paperwork. They are strict on checking baggage for alcohol, pork and pornography upon arrival. Also, they will not allow you to take sand or seashells home with you. Many the resorts take up there own island.
The main activity to partake in would be scuba diving. There are coral reefs that are far enough from land, that the water clarity is amazing and the underwater life is very alive. The water is warm around Maldives making scuba diving an enjoyable experience. This activity will cost you a pretty penny though, but prices vary from resort to resort. Along with the higher price, you will also get a standard of safety, well maintained gear and strict following of protocol.
All of the resorts on the Maldives Island are self contained and offer at least one restaurant for those staying there. Breakfast is included at all places, and then the option of just dinner buffet or lunch and dinner buffet is available. Since drinks are not included, it is recommended to those who want to drink to get an all-inclusive package, but even those will limit you to house drinks. Male, the capital city, offers some small restaurants that cater mostly to tourists at an expensive rate. Many of the dishes in the region revolve around fish and are often hot and spicy. Many dishes are flavored with coconut. Curries are popular among the meals here as well. Because locals are not allowed to drink alcohol, it is only served at resorts with a markup on the price. Also, know that you should drink bottled water while on these islands, do not drink the tap water.
