John Adams was a lawyer who lived in Boston during the 18th century. He was a one of the Sons of Liberty and a key figure of helping the colonies declare independence against England. He was a member of the first continual congress and along with Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin worked on the Decloration of Independence. After the war was over he was appointed the first America's ambassador to Netherlands a position he held from 1782-1788. He also was appointed the first America's ambassador to England, a position he held from 1785-1788. Then he tried running for president but lost to George Washington, as custom back then he became the first vice president. Then after Washington served 8 years he ran again and won against Thomas Jefferson. Midterm the capitol switched from Philadelphia to Washington DC, he was the first president to live in DC, after four years he tried to run again but lost to his vice president Thomas Jefferson. He died July 4, 1826 a few hours before Thomas Jefferson died. His wife was Abigael Adams, and his son was John Quincy Adams, the 6th president of the United States.
