Teddy Roosevelt is best remembered for his foreign policy, corporate reform and ecological preservation. He was nicknamed Trust Buster because he used antitrust laws to fight off corruption in big business. Square Deal is what he called his anti-trust and labor policies. Roosevelt won the 1905 Noble Peace Prize. He won this for his great efforts in negotiating peace between Russia and Japan. He established the US as the "police power" for the Western Hemisphere, stating that US would protect threatened countries in North and South America. This was called "Big Stick Diplomacy." He help increase government regulation and safety standards for food and medicine. He did this with the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug act. He worked on conservation. He did this by setting large areas of land aside for national forests and public use. He made the Panama Canal be built, this created a shortcut between Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
