You do not need a diploma to become a Marine. You can even enter right after high school. The first thing you will do is go to basic training (bootcamp) to learn the basics of being a Marine. After bootcamp, you will go to either SOI or MOS school depending on which job code you enlist under to obtain specialized training in your job field. It is my experience that one cannot change from one service to another without first completing the contract for the service in which one is currently serving. Too, if one desires to be a Marine he/she must go through Marine bootcamp regardless of prior service. In fairness, I must add, my Marine Corps experience was more than 35 years ago.
