No John Cena is not a Marine. But he did go to Parris Island 2 weeks pre-bootcamp to get a feeling of the Marine Corps. He never earned the title of US Marine in my opinion they director of that movie should have chose a real Marine less Marines angry at Cena that way.
You do not need a diploma to become a Marine. You can even enter right after high school. The first thing you will do is go to basic training (bootcamp) to learn the basics of being a Marine. After bootcamp, you will go to either SOI or MOS school depending on which job code you enlist under to obtain specialized training in your job field. The Marine Corps will teach you everything you need to know. There is no need to have a degree unless you want to become an officer. In that event, any 4 year degree is ok. Talk to a recruiter. He or she will be able to tell you the ins and outs in a better one-on-one conversation.
Nope. You are considered a recruit, aka a Boot. You are not considered a Marine until you earn your E.G.A. You will be taken care of with medical treatment if you get hert while at bootcamp and you get paid the pay grade you go in as. But G.I. bills wont include to your care until you are a Marine.

It is my experience that one cannot change from one service to another without first completing the contract for the service in which one is currently serving. Too, if one desires to be a Marine he/she must go through Marine bootcamp regardless of prior service. In fairness, I must add, my Marine Corps experience was more than 35 years ago.
If you are currently out of shape, be sure to reguarly do cardio up until you go to bootcamp. It will help build your stamina so that you are not shortwinded once you begin. It will also help build your strength and endurance which you will both need when going through the bootcamp process.
After bootcamp you go to your first unit. You qualify to be a seaman or fireman and learn about the boats you use. After 6 months you put your name on a school list of your choice. The wait for school is 6 months - 2 1/2 years depending on what school you choose.
