Major Domestic Policy: There were no major domestic events worth noting during Coolidge's presidency. The public was getting over government corruption after scandals such as the Teapot Dome scandal and the Elk Hills scandal.

Major Foreign Policy: Coolidge wanted to continue the idea of neutrality. The only major foreign event during his presidency was a conflict with Mexico over oil. The new Mexican government stated that they owned all of the oil wells. This caused concern for the $300 million that the United States had invested would be nationalized. The United States raised the number of troops at the border, but the Mexican Supreme Court quickly made a decision that all the oil wells previously owned by the United States would still be under U.S. control. The United States also participated in conferences aimed at preventing war. The Kellogg-Briand Peace Treaty was created stating that war was no longer the way to settle disputes. However there was no one to act as the enforcer of this act, so it was not followed.

Coolidge's Legacy: While Coolidge was in office, he had a way with the public and he had a high approval rating. After he left office and the Great Depression began, his reputation was tarnished. Most of his policies favored the rich but ignored the middle class and farmers. He focused mostly of the short-term effects of his policies and not the long-term effects. Although many criticized him, Coolidge still had an effective political style and did produce some prosperity and peace.
