These were the post WW2 years for the UK/GB and was the year that there were still bomb sites across the country, it was also the year that businesses started to get back on their feet, though there was still ration books. Trams and Trolley buses were means of transport in london. It was also the year that Queen Elizabeth 11 got married, and that brought a great deal of joy to the country. It was also the year that the National Health System was started, which helped the poorer classes, no longer would they be worried about calling a doctor out.

On top of that, it has began to see Pakistan /India, which were former colonies of UK / GB getting independence. They were the second / third countries that achieved independence in post World War 2 with Jordan started the trend a year earlier.

Depends on where you lived. If you were a German, you were hiding in the fields, the alleys, under houses...anywhere you could find to get away from Russian soldiers that were full of lust and revenge. All the German men were dead so there was no one to protect you...and if you made it through to the early 1950's you were very lucky.

If you were living in Jamaica you were probably sitting in a rocking chair outside of your hut, smoking some very potent marijuana, and musing about how good your life was.

If you were living in the United States you were being introduced to the new corporate idea of working 50-60 hours a week, making lots of money, but not really finding happiness because you didn't get to spend a lot of time with family or relax and enjoy the beauty of the United States.
