Ronald Reagan spent 3 years on active duty from 1942 to 1945, after being in the Army Reserve for 5 years prior to being called for service during World War II.

Ronald Reagan enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1937 and was commisioned a second lieutenant. Five years later, in 1942, he was called to active service. His poor vision (nearsightedness) prevented him from being sent overseas, so his entire military career was spent making training films and promoting war bonds in the continental US.
