Congress believed Lincoln's Reconstruction plan was too lenient because it aimed for a relatively quick reintegration of Southern states with minimal conditions. His approach, which included the Ten Percent Plan, allowed states to rejoin the Union once 10% of their voters swore allegiance, which many lawmakers felt did not sufficiently punish the Confederacy or protect the rights of freed slaves. They feared this leniency would undermine the federal government's authority and fail to secure lasting change in the South. As a result, Congress sought to implement a more rigorous plan that would ensure civil rights and reconstruction efforts were more firmly established.
i think it was the proclamation of amnesty and reconstruction (10% plan) by Lincoln
President Lincoln actually thought he should be responsible for reconstruction. President Lincoln did this because people left the union so the president could pardon them back in.
Well I think it was because people didn't think it could be done when he was dead.
Lincoln did not get the chance to treat the South in any way after the war. The war ended April 9, 1865. Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865
Because Johnson's plan was implemented when Congress was out of session. Power play, pure and simple. jesslyn bigelow answered this(:
I think you are referring to Andrew Johnson. Jackson was president much earlier. As far as Johnson goes, he was a weak president and he allowed Radical Republicans in congress to shape much of his reconstruction policy.
i think it is false because in the story i am reading it is not saying anything about that but im only 7 so idk
separate but equil, i think... No? It's not Seperate but Equal. That was a part of the Influential African-American part of the lesson, and that's four paragraphs away from the real answer. The answer is Freedman's Bureau. :D You're welcome.
Radical Republicans wanted to oversee Reconstruction because they wanted to let the blacks have their equal rights that are stated in the Declaration of Independence.
A) The deep differences between President Lincoln and Congress I think this is right
i think all of Lincoln's life, there had been a push politically to abolish slavery - from the days of Jefferson and Congress trying to do away with the Articles of Confederation and adopt the Constitution. Lincoln had been taught from a very early age that slavery was bad. By the time he was running for President, that push had renewed itself.
Lincoln visited Richmond VA right after the war. He used a term used by wrestlers- after beating an opponent- you "Let 'em up- easy" Lincoln was in favor of having the Confederacy rejoin the union in a timely manner- which was delayed by his death, and by Reconstruction.
