We are not certain, and by "we," I mean historians. Very little is known about Crispus Attucks' early years. Some sources say he was born into slavery in Framingham, MA (a town to the west of Boston) circa 1723. He seems to have been biracial-- some sources say he was part African and part native (probably Wampanoag Indian). Because he and his parents were house slaves, owned by a Colonel Buckminster, there is a possibility he may have received some tutoring, but it would have been unusual for a slave, or even an indentured servant, to get much education in those days.
