by defeating Japan

This answer is wrong. How would that be possible? We weren't just fighting Imperial Japan during World War II! The war in Northern Africa, Europe, and the Pacific. We got out of WWII by defending against the last German offensive, the Battle of the Bulge. Then, the Allies(including the US) pushed to the capital of nazi Germany, Berlin. Eventually the last fighters were over run, and Germany was separated into 4 zones controlled by Britain,France,Soviet Union, and the US. The US was apart of the Allies during WW2. You can't just say we got out by defeating Japan because we helped the Allies defeat the Germans, the Italians, and Austria-Hungary. The bombings of Nagasaki, and Hiroshima did end the war with Japan, but not the world war with Axis Powers.
