The Proclamation of 1763 led to the revolution because the law stated that people could not move west of the Appalachian Mountains, but settlers ignored it and moved west anyway. After that, the British imposed new taxes to held pay for the French and Indian War, such as the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act, and the Townshend Act. Colonists thought that was unjust. Many Boston citizens felt that they were being bullied into paying taxes. The tensions built up and led to the Boston Massacre, during which five colonists were killed. After that, parliament passed the Tea Act, which colonists thought was a trick to make them accept the new British taxes. Colonists protested and boycotted tea. Then on December 16, 1773, a group of colonists dumped tea into the bay. That was known as the Boston Tea Party. The British responded by passing the Intolerable Acts, laws that stated a new Quartering Act, allowed only one town meeting per year, and proclaimed that officials charged of a crime had to have their trial in a different country; they also closed the Port of Boston. In response to the acts, colonial leaders formed the first Continental Congress. Colonies united and formed the militias. Once the British learned that Massachusetts had been storing weapons, they marched to seize colonial arms. There they battled the colonial minutemen. (minutemen were young farmers who had to be ready in a minute to fight) This was known as the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the beginning of the American Revolution.
The Proclamation of 1763 prohibited unrestricted settlement of the area west of the Appellation Mountains. This was resented by those colonists who wanted to settle there, and by other colonists who saw the proclamation as another evidence of arbitrary laws enacted without consideration of the desires of the people they governed.
